David Brooks scored his first Wales goal since recovering from Hodgkin lymphoma in a 2-0 win over Latvia

The midfielder made his return to Premier League action in March 2023, but September is where he made his international return.

The Welshman was diagnosed with cancer in October 2021 and just under a year later was given the all clear.

He was called up for the international side by Rob Page this month.

The Cherries man has made a positive start to the season, scoring against Brentford last time out.

Brooks also captained his club side in the EFL Cup against Swansea City as Bournemouth won 3-2 last month.

What has David Brooks said?

After coming off the bench in both Wales games, the Cherries’ man was hopeful of returning with a goal.

When discussing his road to recovery, he said: “A long three years” to get to the point where he could represent Wales again.”

In terms of goal scoring, it is clearly something Brooks wanted to do more of this season.

On that he said: “To top it off with a goal is really nice.

“To get my first Premier League goal just before I came away was obviously a bit of a confidence booster.”

The moment came after a long two years for the midfielder, so he deserves the reward.

He hasn’t forgotten all the people that have helped him return: “I would like to say a huge thank you to all the incredible medical staff.

“All their amazing work and support throughout the process.”

With two goals in three games for club and country lets hope that Brooks can continue this form.

Coming back to the Vitality and Chelsea the next match, here’s to hoping he can pick up where he left off and carry his side to a first win.
