Marcus Tavernier, Gavin Kilkenny and Darren Randolph all featured as Bournemouth’s development squad as they drew 1-1 with Sheffield Wednesday.

Tavernier made his first appearance of the season against Brentford, getting an assist for David Brooks’ goal.

The winger has been out since May with a hamstring injury which he suffered in a game against Southampton last season.

He had just scored the winner in a 1-0 win, but was his last game until week four of this season.

The man signed from Middlesborough has missed 18 Premier League games due to injury since joining, in spite of this he has been an important player.

At the time of his injury, it didn’t appear as serious as it became: “That isn’t as serious as his other ones. So if the season were to go on slightly longer, then Tav would be available.”

Although he did return for the start of preseason under Andoni Iraola, it had been confirmed the Englishman would miss the start of the season.

His 19 minute cameo against the Bees saw him make a difference, contributing heavily to putting his side ahead.

Drawing at the GTEC Community Stadium may have been disappointing, but Tavernier has continued his rehabilitation against Wednesday.

How did Tavernier, Randolph and Kilkenny play?

The winger started the game and featured in the first half, Randolph and Kilkenny completed the full 90 minutes.

Tavernier was causing all sorts of problems for the Owls’ left back, driving forward at every opportunity creating plenty of chances.

Dominic Sadi had a chance from a Tavernier cross but he placed it over. He did open the scoring minutes later however.

Randolph was forced into his first save midway through the second half parrying a shot away.

He was beaten 15 minutes later as Adam Adetoro tapped in, with no chance for the Irish keeper.

Kilkenny dictated play from the centre of midfield and had an effort late on in the game whistle narrowly wide.

A 1-1 draw was slightly disappointing given the Cherries’ domination, especially in the first half. Good to get some minutes in for injured players.
