Bournemouth are prepared to make their first big money signing under new boss Andoni Iraola with Romain Faivre set for a medical on the south coast.

According to the Daily Echo, the 24-year-old will undergo his medical today ahead of completing his move to the Cherries from Lyon for a deal worth €15m.

Faivre will immediately be sent out on loan to Ligue 1 outfit Lorient, where he also spent the second half of last season on loan, who are owned by Bournemouth chairman Bill Foley.

It is said that the plan for the French midfielder is to join up with Bournemouth for the 2024/25 campaign.

It was not too long ago that Paris Saint-Germain, along with Manchester United, were believed to have held an interest in Faivre.

The midfielder himself revealed that he had spoken with the French giants, but a move never formulated.

United were linked with Faivre as recently as 2021, with another proposed move to AC Milan also falling through, however, the Frenchman later described it a ‘blessing’ at the time.

Lyon only signed the midfielder in January of last season following his impressive performances for Brest, but he found game time hard to come by and was subsequently loaned out.

Whilst with Lorient, Faivre made 17 appearances, scoring five goals and recording three assists.

Compare that to his spell with Lyon, where he made 28 appearances, scoring three and assisting one, and it becomes apparent that his loan move was necessary to help regain his confidence.

Will Faivre be a good addition?

Should his second Lorient spell prove to be as successful as his first, then Bournemouth might just have a seriously good player on their hands.

It is clear that Faivre has the potential to succeed, but so many swaps and changes at the beginning of his career appear to have hindered his development.

The Cherries will be hoping that he continues his impressive form in the French first division next season before he attempts to make his mark in the Premier League.
