Tyler Adams has a long-standing connection with Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola.
Tyler Adams was recently confirmed as Bournemouth’s latest summer signing, joining from Championship side Leeds United.
Andoni Iraola has invested heavily in improving the Bournemouth midfield contingent the summer, with fellow new arrival Alex Scott joining Adams at the Vitality Stadium.
There will be plenty of excitement at the south coast club surrounding the USA international’s arrival, as he was one of Leeds’ standout performers last season. He will bring steel and control to the middle of the park for the Cherries.
Iraola is determined to make Bournemouth a more expansive, attack-minded side this season, and Adams’ presence will give him a lynchpin of security to build around.
Iraola will be hoping that the 24-year-old can hit the ground running on the south coast.
Adams knows what the Spanish coach will be expecting of him, and has revealed that he has a historic connection with the manager from earlier in his career. When discussing what compelled him to join Bournemouth, the American cited the pull of the manager.

Adams and Iraola back together at Bournemouth
As quoted by afcbtv, Adams said, “a lot of things attracted me to Bournemouth. The manager himself is one of the up and coming young managers in the world. He was actually playing for NYCFC when I was playing at New York Red Bulls and coming through the system there, so having a little bit of familiarity there.”
Iraola did indeed end his playing career at New York City FC. The former right-back, who was capped seven times by Spain, announced his retirement in 2016, bringing the curtain down on his time with the MLS outfit. At the same time, Adams was coming through the academy in New York and beginning to break into the first team. Iraola may remember having recognised the youngster’s raw talent back then.
Adams is clearly a big believer in Iraola’s credentials and abilities as a coach. The pair will be looking to bring the best out of each other now they have been reunited at Bournemouth.
