Cherries’ Frenchman out on loan could be key man next season

Bournemouth signed Romain Faivre this window for a reported £13 million and immediately loaned him to sister club Lorient, but who is he?

The 24-year old was signed from Lyon where he had made 28 appearances after joining the club in January 2022.

The midfielder had reportedly asked to leave the club and now will play his football for Ligue 1 rivals, Lorient.

Who is Romain Faivre?

Faivre joined Monaco in 2017 and made appearances for both their main and B team.

Over three years and only one first team appearance, he signed for Brest in deal worth over £600,000 in June 2020.

He had a great spell there where he went on to play 59 matches. 14 goals and 11 assists in that time tempted Lyon into signing him.

A £2 million deal was made with a 15% sell on clause.

Four goal involvements in a year and a half with his new club saw him sign for Bournemouth in July 2023.

£15 million and a loan back to France for the season means he won’t play for the Cherries until 2024.

How does Romain Faivre fit in at Bournemouth?

The Frenchman is a very versatile, dynamic footballer with plenty of technical ability.

Going forward he is a smooth operator and has so may different skills in his arsenal.

He is a top dribbler and wants to get on the ball, drive forward and take on his man where he often leaves them in his tracks.

Despite not being particularly prolific in terms of goals and assists, his ability is definitely there.

Playing in the Premier League week in week out, alongside players like Dango Outtara and Dominic Solanke could see his numbers explode.

In terms of pass completion, progressive carries and successful take-ons he is one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe.

If he can discover a goalscoring touch, he could be a vital cog in Andoni Iraola’s system.
