Bournemouth are showing an interest in Peterborough United centre back Ronnie Edwards.

According to Alex Howell, the Cherries are competing with West Ham United and Rangers for his signature.

Who is Ronnie Edwards?

He started his career at Barnet, aged nine. Coming through their academy, going on to make two senior appearances.

He joined the Posh on a trial period in August 2020, subsequentlty signing for the League One side.

He has since gone onto establish himself as a key player for Peterborough, playing week in week out as a central defender.

92 appearances in three years testament to his ability and performances.

On the international stage, he has featured for England Under 19s and 20s.

The now 20-year-old started in the final of the 2022 European Under 19s Championship as England defeated Israel in extra time.

He has since been included in the Under 20s World Cup squad which was announced in May.

Why do Bournemouth want Ronnie Edwards?

The Cherries aren’t in desperate need for a centre half but a young player, playing at the level he is shouldn’t be passed on.

The defender is contracted to the Posh until the summer of 2025.

This factor leaves his team in a strong position to negotiate a positive deal that benefits all parties.

He is quick making him an excellent defender on the cover.

Passing out from the back is also one of his strong points, making him an attractive option for top sides.

Posh manager Darren Ferguson will be hoping that he doesn’t lose Edwards, especially given his side’s start to the season.

If a deal could be struck for the defender, a loan back option could benefit all parties.

This means Peterborough keep their star and Cherries have a centre back for the future.

This all while allowing players like James Hill to continue his development while in the Premier League.
